Castles were first seen in the 9th century and provided a fortified structure for nobles to live in. Many of them even employed moats with drawbridges to keep enemies from breaking away at the walls or scaling the sides. As gunpowder and cannons were introduced in the 1300’s, many of the older castles needed to be updated to withstand these new weapons. Funnily enough, once the defense aspect of castles became outdated by the 18th century, there was a ‘trend’ among elites to move to restructured castles as a status symbol. Today’s drawing is a homage to the thousands (and probably tens of thousands) of castles that were built up during our time here. Check it out below!
